Bloomsburg Track Teams Race in Weekend Events
SELINSGROVE - The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track teams took part in two events over the weekend. On Friday night, some members of the team took part in the Raleigh Relay Invitational, while on Saturday, the other members of the team raced at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University.
In North Carolina, the Huskies' Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) ran the 100 meters in 11.72 seconds, but failed to qualify for the finals. In the 10,000 meters, Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp/Seneca Valley) finished 12th in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 30.39.11.
For the women, Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) ran 18:27.85 for the 5,000 meters despite being knocked down after 1,500 meters. Also in the 5,000 meters, Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) finished 10th in her heat and 32nd overall in an NCAA national provisional qualifying time of 17:49.37.
On Saturday at Susquehanna, in men's action, McGhee took second in the 100 meters in a time of 11.34 seconds, while at 200-meters, McGhee took first in a time of 22.65. At 400-meters, Marc Best (Bushkill/East Stroudsburg) was ninth in 52.56 seconds, then at 800-meters, Dave Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) finished fourth in a time of 1:59.29, while Dan Tallarico (Pittsburgh/North Hills) was sixth was 2:00.68.
At 1,500 meters, Dave Sanford took second in 3:58.71 with Mike Dalton (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) 10th in 4:09.92. At 5,000-meters, Dan Ezzi (Mechanicsburg/Trinity) was seventh in 15:46.26 with Tim Marcoe (Lansdale/Lansdale Catholic) 11th in 15:54.65. In the 10,000 meter event, Mikhail Litvinov (Drums/Hazleton) was third in 32.59.84, while Tony Skiles (West Reading/Wyomissing) was fifth in 33.13.26. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Mike Espinosa (Media/Penncrest) was fourth was 10:09.74. In the 4 x 400 relay, the Huskies' team of Best, Tallarcio, Sanford and McGhee were third in 3:27.96 seconds.
For the women at Susquehanna, Connie Raineri (Gilbertsville/Pius X) had a solid meet taking second in the 400-meter race in 59.43 seconds; second in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, seven inches and was part of the 4 x 400 relay team with Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area), Michelle Jansen (Warrington/Central Bucks West) and Tania Zangari (Sunbury/Shikellamy) in a time of 4:26.58.
In the 5000-meters, Zangari was ninth in 19:02.24, while at 10,000-meters, Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) finished first in 38:03.98. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Allentown Central Catholic) was second in 11:24.73 seconds.
